Your sushi lunch arrived with one packet of soy sauce and limp ginger. Ever have a hunch you’re getting the raw deal?
Authentic (and fresh) is the word at newcomer Yanako, opening tomorrow.
Chef Moon Krapugthong, a guest at the James Beard House and the brains behind Chabaa Thai Bistro, teamed with Japan native Haruo Ige for her latest venture. Ige hooks diners with his homeland’s humble everyday dishes (udon, shrimp tempura) and assembles specialty rolls like the wasabi tobiko-spiked Younger Sister.
Krapugthong tasked Philadelphia University architecture grads to pull off the design on a shoestring; the resulting terra-cotta tiles and leafy atrium mimic the interior of Japanese homes. Twirl noodles at the communal table or skip chairs and flop down on the floor of the ozashiki room.
Nothing fishy about that.
