We knew New York would catch on sooner or later.
Today City Winery opens its first location outside the Big Apple, in the West Loop.
The sprawling space wears many hats: drinking and dining destination, event space, music venue, and, most notably, Chicago’s first official winery.
Musical acts cater to an older crowd, but you’ll be equally smitten sipping myriad house blends (and varietals culled from other small-batch wineries) and nibbling Mediterranean-influenced fare at a reclaimed wood table in the dining room.
Pay attention, oenophiles: You can make wine customized to your specifications (with help from the pros on-site) and have your name stamped on a barrel; even the labels are bespoke.
All of the pizzazz, none of the pretension.
It’s got the Midwest at its core.
