What: Pick up small kits ($18 each) of Flour + Water fresh pasta and sauce (complete with recipe and suggested wine pairing) at sister spot Salumeria.
Why: Creations like tagliatelle with hen ragu, summer squash, and chili save you from jar brands.

What: The new bar specializes in ciders from around the globe, from California huckleberry to a Spanish variety aged in whiskey barrels.
Why: Feeling peckish? Salads, flatbreads, and sliders fuel your sampling.

What: Do415 and DJ Dials present an impressive cast of music makers covering everything from house to indie to pop.
Why: Jams from Riff Raff (who just signed with Diplo’s Mad Decent label), Flosstradamus, Floating Points, and Ghosts on Tape.

Ambiance Summer Store Party
What: The SF juggernaut toasts the end of the season with bubbly drinks, snacks, and prize giveaways on the half hour.
Why: Get 10 percent off regular items and 20 percent off the sale rack. Can’t make it? The same event pops up next Thursday at the Upper Haight branch.

The Great Urban Race
What: Teams of two to four complete puzzles, challenges, brainteasers, and physical tests of mettle.
Why: The winners get $300 and a chance to play in the national championship in Vegas; everyone gets a frosty beer.
When: Sat., noon-5 p.m.
