If you’re commonly told “only you could pull that off,” skip to paragraph two. If you’re more the sartorial equivalent of vanilla, hold on to your loafers.
Mei New York, the debut line from Mei Zee (Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein) and Amy Jin, is now in stores.
Inspired by dapper days past, the collection reads equal parts Annie Hall and E.A. Poe (read: no flouncy dresses). Tailoring is intriguing (updated tux tail hems; ruching) and daunting; we suggest working pieces with simple items you already own.
Add drama to skinny jeans in a black blazer with elbow patches and a deep V-neck collar. A short-sleeve charmeuse blouse comes with shiny shoulder panel, while gray trousers fit the menswear-for-women bill (and your butt) perfectly.
The real standout — a high-waisted mullet-hem skirt in burnt orange — looks like Hammer pants from the back.
