Tree climbing and password changes once quashed your clubhouse dreams.
Today nurture artistic ambitions at a work space that’s decidedly more adult.
Founded by three Bay Area trailblazers (Sfgirlbybay’s Victoria Smith, Rare Device’s Rena Tom, and Minted brand muse Suzanne Shade), Makeshift Society is a new Hayes Valley creation station built for right-brainers by right-brainers.
Cushy couches, restored wood tables with vintage schoolhouse chairs, and factory pendant lamps are a step up from standard work-from-home digs. Need help in the inspiration department? Makeshift holds classes on everything from Instagram basics to opening a boutique, loans Public bikes to members, and hosts a monthly pop-up shop from vendors such as Umba Box and Curator.
The secret’s out.
Makeshift Society, 235 Gough Street, between Oak and Fell Streets (415-625-3220 or makeshiftsociety.com). Memberships are available at makeshiftsociety.com/memberships, $30-$350 per month; $20-$30 per day.
