Belli Restaurant Opens

Rav it all

Lately, you’ve become more attuned to Instagramming your food than eating it.

Get back to the heart of the platter at Belli, a Northern Italian-inspired osteria in Downtown Berkeley, opening today.

The space is inviting (warm red walls, wooden communal seating, and custom-built furniture), but it’s the daily pastas that guarantee your return.

Chef Paul Oprescu, who apprenticed at the former Eccolo, plans to roll out his secrets in the form of inventive ravioli. Think pork belly with figs or a cleverly plated black squid ink ravioli with seared prawns.

The good chef has been gathering techniques for some time and has a variety of pillowy recipes he plans to rotate into the menu, including a selection of confits and braised meats.

After all, it’s what’s on the inside (of your belly) that counts.
