Shop Smarter at Legion

Independent labels and hard-to-find lines abound

Now that you’ve shopped for him, holiday hostesses, and everyone in between, it’s time to redirect your energy toward your favorite recipient: your closet.

We suggest starting at new Chinatown boutique Legion.

With an expertly curated collection of independent labels and lines (many California exclusives), it’s obvious owner Sydney Pfaff is no novice. The former fashion writer, stylist, and shopgirl fantasized about opening her own boutique for years. After an inspirational jaunt overseas, she took action.

A clean aesthetic (chic custom-built fixtures and shelves, a vertical air plant garden) allows wares to shine. Find beautiful silk prints from Rachel Rose, Collina Strada handbags, and structured pieces from Kaarem (our obsession: the sleeveless dress with a dropped arm hole and rounded neck).

Head to the back to stock up on vegan body care from Native State and the coolest ceramics by Brooklyn-based Helen Levi.

Come spring, Legion will add surf-inspired basics from First Base and pretty, clean pieces from Theonne.

It’s the gift that keeps on giving.

Legion, 679 Clay Street, between Kearny and Montgomery Streets (415-733-7900 or legionsf.com).
