Valentine’s Gifts for the San Francisco Vice Squad

Ideas that are downright sinful

v-day gift guide!

The heart wants what the heart wants. This February 14, give in to temptation with gifts so good they’re bad.

Sugar or booze? With spiked treats from Bump City Bakery, he gets to have both. Get the party started with a Prohibition pie (we’re partial to bourbon-apple or port-chocolate, $3 each) or get tipsy on the drunken cupcakes ($3.50 each) in familiar flavors (chocolate martini, old-fashioned).

Mirror, mirror, on the wall, your valentine is the vainest of them all. Go all out on the new caviar facial ($285) at the Nob Hill Spa. The 90-minute treatment uses protein-rich products by Kerstin Florian, purported to smooth lines, hydrate, and improve texture. An AcuLift Massage (to tighten and tone) and a Marine BioMatrix Sheet (for maximum hydration) leave his complexion glowing.

Crowded restaurants are a buzzkill. Heat things up at home with help from a Luke’s Local’s DIY Pizzahacker box ($50). Inside: two dough balls, mozzarella curds, Happy Girl Kitchen crushed tomatoes, and plenty of topping options (garlic, red onions, greens). Black Jet’s mini cupcakes, salted caramels from Nosh This, plus a bouquet of tulips from McGinnis Ranch sweeten the deal.

In a perfect world, you’d do dessert in Paris. The next-best thing: hand-crafted chocolates from Gâté Comme des Filles ($18 for four). Created with fresh ingredients (foraged herbs, Oakland honey, organic California nuts), the decadent morsels are like tiny works of art. Flavors vary by season, but we’re crazy about the Meyer lemon.

Your valentine’s true passion? Bling that makes you go hmm. Win her over with the detailing (squared-off edges, single pyramid) of Tomtom’s eighteen-karat bangle ($92). It’s subtle enough for stacking and cool enough to wear alone.

A weekend of tastings in wine country is ambitious. Instead, take it easy in one of Big Sur Getaway’s three restored trailers, a stone’s throw from the pink sands of Pfeiffer Beach. The property’s private showers in the Redwoods, hammocks, and fire pits melt away any shred of motivation.

Thou shalt not covet thy best friend’s home design blog. Make sure your valentine’s abode is up to snuff with Native Line’s bespoke wall hanging ($248). Artist Justine Ashbee weaves each piece on a loom with gold- and silver-plated wire, metallic gold fibers, and vintage thread.

Board games and sporting matches tend to bring out your beloved’s ugly competitive side. Try Fredericks & Mae’s reimagined dominoes, with silk-screened moon phases ($80) in place of dots, to help channel aggression into a more serene pastime.

They’re sinful.
