Go on. ‘Fess up. You so wanted to be Barbie when you grew up.
You loved her polyester clothes, her porn-star hair, her stand-at-attention boobs. But most of all, you loved that her feet were permanently paralyzed in a high-heel position.
Of course, things didn’t exactly turn out that way. (Unless you’re actually Pamela Anderson.) But you can live a little piece of the dream at the Casbah, a new shoe store opening today in the space that was formerly Fetish. The gem of a boutique, located in Presidio Heights, is decked out in attention-demanding Moroccan-meets-drag-queen decor: bubble-gum pink walls, a zebra-print rug, bright yellow silk taffeta curtains, and a funky printed round couch in the center.
Oh, and the shoes. Owner Andrea Schnitzer has done one heck of a job picking them out. You’ll find old standbys like Giuseppe Zanotti, Hollywould, Sigerson Morrison, and Lambertson Truex. Up-and-comers such as Alexandra Neel, Papeet, and Eileen Shields. And the hard-to-finds, including Nicole Farhi, Dusica Dusica, and Constanca Basto. But the fun doesn’t stop at your feet. Also on hand are Botkier and Carlos Falchi handbags, as well as Nava Zahavi, Chan Luu, and Robin Woodard jewelry.
Barbie never had it this good.
