Architecture is like brain surgery: It makes a lousy hobby. The margin for error is dangerously slim, and there’s way too much math and science involved. Unless you’re building a gingerbread house. In which case, bring on the fun. Head to the Lark Creek Inn on December 11 and build a gingerbread house for a good cause. For $125, receive a pre-assembled gingerbread house (the fun part is the decorating) and a box filled with icing, candy adornments, and the necessary tools to create your work of art. Pastry chefs from various restaurants will be on hand for help and advice, and, should you need emergency repairs on your house, “homeowner’s insurance” can be purchased for an extra fee. Chef Matt Christianson of the Lark Creek Inn will provide wine and appetizers, and carolers from the Fourth Street Beat will sing to get you in the holiday spirit. Proceeds from the event will be donated to Whistlestop, a nonprofit that supplies seniors in Marin County with meals, transportation, and cultural outings. Now there’s a hobby worth picking up.
