It’s not every day you get to dine with the ghosts of hockey rats and Deadheads past.
But at Winterland Restaurant, which opens this week, you have your chance. The space, a former ice skating rink, later became a legendary music venue, holding off-the-hook concerts by the likes of the Dead, the Stones, and Joplin.
Inside, dark wood, orange poufs, and reddish walls lend the space a welcoming vibe. Diners can cozy up to the granite U-shaped bar and order snacks like roasted shishito peppers with fleur de sel. In the dining room, choose from chef Vernon Morales’ more elaborate winter selection. The red snapper and skate wing (heh, heh — get it? Skate wing?) are real winners. And, as you marvel at the food, don’t forget to pay homage to the space’s unusual history.
What a long strange trip it’s been.
