Elbow Room

That Dorothy was one smart cookie.

She taught us two vital life lessons: A) shoes are important and B) there’s no place like home.

Count chocolatier Christopher Elbow among her devotees. After working at a Vegas steakhouse, Elbow packed his bags and returned to Kansas. (Okay, so it was actually Kansas City, Mo.) There, he worked as a pastry chef and became known for sweets that put the Lollipop Kids’ to shame.

The rest, as they say, is history. The first Christopher Elbow Artisanal Chocolate shop opened last year. His rainbow of colorful candy, imbued with flavors like 23-karat gold champagne, honey-vanilla, and Vietnamese cinnamon, is legendary.

Now Elbow’s taken his shop online so anyone can indulge in confections like roasted-almond toffee and caramel pecan treats. Of course, it lacks the personal touch of a in-person consultation with the great and powerful wizard of chocolate himself.

But let’s face it. With treats like these, no one was paying attention to the man behind the curtain.
