Some say you can’t have your cake and eat it, too. This makes sense if you’re either: A) a floozy or a monogamist, B) a saver or a spender, or C) a liberal or a conservative.
But in a literal sense, anyone can have both.
That’s thanks to Ken O’Neil, a baker in Daly City, who cooks up sinful confections and delivers them (for free) to doorsteps in San Francisco and the Peninsula. His focus is on gateau (for weddings or any occasion), and favorite combos include praline-chocolate, chocolate-caramel, mocha ganache, lemon-blackberry, and chocolate with a tad of cayenne pepper and chili powder (to add a kick).
If the spongy stuff isn’t your thing, he’ll whip up candy (truffles, caramels), pie (pumpkin, apple, pecan), or bread (sourdough, ciabatta, croissants, and danish). And if you’re still not satisfied, he’ll customize to suit your craving — be it a crazy-shaped goodie or an outrageously flavored icing.
No matter how outlandish your request, in O’Neil’s hands it’s a piece of cake.
