StreetSmart4Kids Program

You pride yourself on your street smarts.

You always keep a few extra bucks in your bra. You never cross the street without looking both ways. And you tip at least 15 percent.

Maybe it’s time to revise that last policy.

From October 1 through November 15, many of San Francisco’s restaurants will participate in a program called StreetSmart4Kids.

Here’s how it works: You eat at a participating restaurant and make a $2 donation when you pay your bill. All of the money collected during the six-week period is donated to Huckleberry Youth Programs and Larkin Street Youth Services, both of which help at-risk and homeless youth in the city.

Who’s up? More like, who isn’t? Rose’s Cafe? Uh-huh. Jack Falstaff? Absolutely. Kokkari? You bet. Foreign Cinema? Yep. Garibaldi’s? Fresca? Ace Wasabi’s? Check, check, check. And that’s just the beginning.

Now you can enjoy your meal and feel warm and fuzzy knowing you’re helping the city’s youth enjoy lives of dignity and economic self-sufficiency.

That’s what we call eating smart.

For more information and a list of participating restaurants, go to streetsmart4kids.org.
