American Beauty

We Americans don’t usually like outsiders telling us our business.

But in photographer Harry Benson’s case, we’ll make an exception.

The brilliant Scottish photojournalist has documented some of our nation’s most exciting moments — and we couldn’t be more grateful. His new book, Harry Benson’s America, is full of snapshots from his first 40 years in the States. It begins when he stepped off the plane with The Beatles in 1964 and, along the way, covers ten presidents (from Eisenhower to George W.), celebrities, civil rights marches, and much more.

From November 11 to 17, the Union Square Kenneth Cole store will have fifteen photographs from the book on display. Stop by and peruse shots of Barbra Streisand, Andy Warhol, Bianca Jagger, The Beatles, Governor Schwarzenegger, Ronald Reagan, JFK, Muhammad Ali, Frank Sinatra, Mia Farrow, Mick Jagger, Vietnam War protesters, Greta Garbo, Al Pacino, Francis Ford Coppola, and Julie Christie.

It’ll make you proud to be an American — and glad Benson was in the right place at the right time.

Even if he is a Scot.
