Men at Work

Know why they call them Renaissance men? Because no one’s seen one since about 1576.

So it’s all the more exciting when a crew like Vintage 415 comes along.

After throwing parties and opening a store, they’re now on to the next venture: Mamacita, a Mexican restaurant on Chestnut Street.

Located in the space that housed Cafe Marimba, the guys have given it an extreme makeover. Pretty photographs cover a baby blue wall. The ceilings are hung with cigaro reed, glowing star chandeliers, and intricate metal balls.

But this spot is about more than just the scene. Chef Sam Josi (sous chef from Slanted Door) whips up classic Mexican dishes with a modern twist. Starters like ahi tuna ceviche and cornmeal-crusted calamari are delish, as are tamales (adobo chicken or corn and mushroom) and main dishes like skirt steak with chipotle onion rings. Wash it all down with a pomegranate margarita (made with fresh-squeezed juice) or sangria.

After a couple of those, you might experience a rebirth of your own.
