Short Cuts

SF Film Shorts Festival Call for Entries

Generally speaking, shortness stinks. There’s really no good seat in a crowded movie theater, and parade watching is out altogether.

But, Randy Newman be damned, short people have got a reason to live.

Especially now, thanks to the organizers behind the first SF International Festival of Short Films. This summer, a select group of budding auteurs will get the chance to share their 30-minute (or less) vision with the world. Aimed at celebrating a mixed bag of content and style, the festival is looking for anything from your twisted home videos and street art to bigger-budget fare — as long as you’ve got something unique, educational, or just plain interesting to say.

So, whether you fancy yourself a Spielberg (sci-fi), a Spurlock (documentary), or the next Matthew Barney (experimental), submit your film by March 31. (Procrastinators have until June 30.) The festival runs August 10-12, and films will be shown at independent venues throughout the city.

That’s the long and the short of it.
