Hitting the road always sounds like the answer — until you realize you have no idea where you’re headed. So for those times when you want to pack up and go, here’s a list of some of the Bay Area’s latest and greatest.
Just a skip and a jump from the city, The Lodge at Tiburon has been totally revamped by Larkspur Hospitality. Lounge by the heated outdoor pool in a cabana, set sail around (or bike along) the nearby Richardson Bay, half a block away. Eat local, seasonal fare from Three Degrees Restaurant, the first full-service eatery to open its doors in Tiburon in sixteen years, right on the premises.
In the mood for some R&R? Head to Healdsburg. Les Mars Hotel hits all the marks for luxe (chaise lounge by the pool, anyone?). For a quainter stay, reserve one of the six contemporary cottage suites at Duchamp. Spend the days sipping on the winery’s syrah or hit the Hotel Healdsburg’s spa for pampering. Nosh on fried shrimp, goat cheese croquettes, and tuna poke at Barndiva, where all ingredients are sustainably farmed. Start your morning right with the best joe in town at Flying Goat Coffee. Before heading back to reality, stop at De Loach Vineyards Farmers Market on Saturdays and Sundays for fresh organic fruits and veggies.
For a real road trip experience, head a little farther north to Upper Lake’s Tallman Hotel, an 1890s Victorian that’s just been restored. Go back in time and enjoy stargazing and bass fishing without giving up modern technology and amenities like Molton Brown bath products, wireless Internet, and a pool and hot tub. For eats and drinks, go to the Blue Wing Saloon & Cafe, an old-school joint serving up delish barbecued ribs and burgers. Excellent wine tasting is nearby at Ceàgo Vinegarden.
Now, you just have to pack your things and go.
