Your everything-tastes-better-with-vodka phase ended abruptly on July 4, 1998. (Two words: watermelon upchuck.)
But you may want to lift the embargo for the Double Chocolate Vodka Earthquake Cake. A heavenly treat created by the geniuses at the San Francisco Chocolate Factory, it’s a combination of our two favorite indulgences: vodka and chocolate. Super-rich, creamy chocolate cake is doused in vodka (just a little), enhancing the moisture and flavor in an ordinary sweet. (Don’t worry — you can’t taste the booze.)
The delectable gateaux are a mere four ounces in size, but they pack a mean punch. Meant to be shared among four (portion control, people), they’re best served with a dollop of whipped cream, a scoop of ice cream, a glaze of warm jam, or a sprinkling of nuts.
The liquor keeps the whole thing fresh for up to a year, but it’s doubtful that it will stay in the pantry for long.
Given that your everything-tastes-better-with-chocolate phase is still going strong.
Available at The San Francisco Chocolate Factory, 286 12th Street, at Folsom Street (415-677-9194 or sfchocolate.com).
