Poster Child

Challenge: Find art to bring drab walls to life on your skimpy budget.

Hint: Reviving the dorm room poster won’t win you Top Design.

Secret weapon: Hannah Stouffer. Even if you haven’t heard her name, you’d recognize the SF-based artist’s work from the pages of magazines and billboards in your hood.

Inspired by old postcards, feminine pin-ups, ornamental text, Victorian design, and a love of fierce iconography (she draws a lot of prowling lions), Stouffer’s winning combo of historical and modern design graces everything from T-shirts to store windows.

Starting at $25, her prints, illustrations, and acrylic paintings can be found at Mignonne in Oakland. (While you’re there, spruce up your pad with vintage goods, European linens, and delicate glasses.)

Edgy yet accessible, the colorful curling lines of Stouffer’s work are endlessly captivating.

Making it a dubious loss to be sent home.
