Adventures in Netherlands

Dutch Door Press

On a first date, reaching for your bag to produce your share of the tab means one of two things: You’re modern and self-sufficient, or you’re getting a cab home.

Do the obligatory pump fake — even if you’re smitten — but ultimately let him pay. (He insists.)

Then send a card from Dutch Door Press. Run by two designing women and named after the entryway to their San Francisco studio, the new line of vintage-inspired greeting cards, invitations, and posters is hand-printed on antique presses.

If you’re just not that into him, the tulip-printed thank-you notes gracefully give the hint. On the other hand, the Cuckoo for You card (complete with clock) says it’s time to plan a second date. Or rendezvous with the printing princesses to create custom invitations. For, say, the party in your pants.

Because, in this case, going Dutch doesn’t mean your netherlands are off the menu.

Available at Church Street Apothecary, 1767 Church Street, between Day and 30th Streets (415-970-9828); online at dutchdoorpress.com.
