Ride On

Mojo Bicycle Cafe

There’s nothing fun about being a cyclist in SF: treacherous hills, vengeful Muni drivers, nonexistent bike lanes.

Except for the light at the end of the hideous three-lane traffic jam: Mojo Bicycle Cafe.

The charming, pint-size space is half bike shop, half cafe. Have your ride tuned up in back; fuel up on eye-opening Ecco espresso drinks and good eats (fresh fruit, pastries, sammies) while you wait.

The nice guys in charge — Remy Nelson, John McDonell, and David Robb — all care about city riders. Which means you don’t have to be a fixie-riding Missionite or a Lycra-sheathed Iron Man to get service. They carry Kona, Swobo, and Rock Lobster bikes; parts and accessories; and a small selection of good-looking gear made from organic wool and cotton.

A beer and wine license is in the works for well-deserved post-ride libations in the cheerful backyard garden.

Which is sure to put a spell on you.

Mojo Bicycle Cafe, 639a Divisadero Street, between Hayes and Grove Streets (415-440-2338 or mojobicyclecafe.com).
