You’ve never actually run with the bulls in Pamplona. But when Laïola opens today in the Marina, you just might come close.
For starters, it’ll be extremely hot, thanks to chef Mark Denham’s Iberian-inspired California menu. Try the house-made charcuteria (fuet, lomito, verraco, and salchichon); warm local peaches wrapped in La Quercia jamon with arugula salad; tortilla espanola with favas and green garlic puree; and pan con chocolate finished with sea salt and olive oil.
Though the drink menu isn’t terrifying, it’ll get your heart rate up with 250ml carafinas (that’s a glass and a half of vino), seasonal sangria, and potent cocktails like The Sun Also Rises (Orinoco rum, vanilla, grapefruit, and lime).
Finally, with its no-reservations policy, you might just get trampled when the hordes get wind of the hip vibe and cool scene.
No bull.
Laïola, 2031 Chestnut Street, between Fillmore and Mallorca Streets (415-346-5641 or laiola.com).
