Dawson’s Chic

Some people dress like rock stars. Other people, like, dress rock stars and channel their star-styling skills into show-stopping acts all their own.

Case in point: Laura Dawson, a former stylist to bands like Scissor Sisters and Brazilian Girls, whose new fall collection looks at home in the limelight. Inspired by the muted colors of parchment and the warped figures in surrealist paintings (think DalĂ), her creations come in unexpected shapes punctuated with delightful sculptural details.

The asymmetrical Una coat in rain-resistant waxed canvas features scoop pockets and front and back pleats that keep the garment swinging as you walk. The pinstripe Djuna wrap dress encircles the body four times before settling into a silhouette that’s as structurally intriguing as it is comfortable. And the Audrey-inspired Tatiana dress strikes a pose that’s equal parts edgy and demure.

There’s nothing like being stuck between a rocker and a chic place.
