The Farmer in the Deli

“Were you raised in a barn?” used to be the insult equivalent of calling someone a heathen.

Now it’s a compliment. To prove it, Sam Josi (Mamacita, Umami) is opening the doors of Blue Barn Gourmet. And leaving them open.

The concept: artisanal takeout with sandwiches, salads, fresh flowers, and handmade wreaths sourced from Oak Hill Farm in Sonoma. Old barn beams and rafters give the pint-size Marina spot an authentic country feel.

Create your own salad or opt for updated classics like the Cobber (sub pepperoni for traditional bacon). Sandos like the Rooster (chile-lime grilled chicken breast, Niman Ranch bacon, avocado, smoked cheddar, and chipotle-scallion aioli) and Skirt (grilled Meyer skirt steak, Point Reyes blue, caramelized onions, roasted red peppers, arugula, and horseradish Dijon) are finger-licking good (but please use your napkin instead).

Sandwiches are packed with a piece of Bazooka gum for a surprise sweet ending.

Just don’t smack it.
