Stitching Time

Time’s ticking. They start school and — voilĂ  — cool trumps cute. Be prepared.

Tomorrow, Wee Scotty, the nation’s only fashion school for kids reopens in Lower Pacific Heights, with grand new digs and expanded classes. Budding designers (ages 7 and up) sketch, snip, sew, and serge in an open studio while owner and master seamstress Lynne Gallagher provides expert guidance, a rock ’n’ roll vibe, and snacks.

Classes like Fashion Designer and Rip and Recycle teach everything from basic stitching to artisan detailing. Creativity gets a workout with Husqvarna Viking sewing machines and a treasure trove of books, fabrics, and trims.

Twice a year, junior Jacobses strut their stuff on the catwalk. And this summer’s design competition a la Project Runway will power them straight into the San Francisco Fashion Week spotlight.

Sew cool.

Wee Scotty, 1807 Divisadero Street, at Bush Street (415-345-9200 or weescotty.com). Celebrate the reopening at a fashion show, complete with bagpipes and refreshments, April 5, 7 p.m.
