Having a baby taught you that you’re not only human, but also animal.
Lead your cubs to similar discovery.
Perched just above Muir Beach, the Slide Ranch nonprofit teaching farm is home to an organic garden and flocks of gentle goats, sheep, and chickens. Pause to harvest fragrant herbs, milk goats, and feed fowl.
On low-tide days, clamber down to Split Rock to peer at anemones, crabs, and sea stars. (The hands-on can make mud pies and sample seaweed.) When surf and sun are done, retreat to the ocean overlook for nature-inspired crafts, stories, and face painting.
The ranch welcomes human broods during spring and fall weekends for farm days, toddler days, and campouts. Older pups dive into day camps and school programs. All take away a fresh appreciation for healthy food and the great outdoors.
Not to mention the animals that people it.
Slide Ranch, 2025 Shoreline Highway, Muir Beach (415-381-6155 or slideranch.org). Spring fundraiser (organic food, live bluegrass, sheep shearing, bread- and butter-making) Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
