Pier Pressure

La Mar Cebicheria Peruana Opens

With the economy in the shitter, that spicy South American vacay is on hold (as the Dow plunges by the nanosecond).

Get a dose of your long-gone jet-set ways at La Mar Cebichería Peruana, the Embarcadero’s new oasis of Latin fusion.

Peruvian restaurateur Gastón Acurio delivers his inspired gastronomy of global deliciousness in a spacious, breezy spot situated in a former ferry terminal — complete with palm trees, Peruvian music, and, of course, cebiche galore.

Sip Pisco punch, Peruvian brews, and the signature chicha morada (a nonalchoholic purple corn infusion) while noshing on tiraditos (sashimis) topped with imported sauces, traditional causas (whipped potato with seafood salad), hearty stews, and sorbets made from exotic pulps.

Check back in a couple of weeks, when the waterfront patio will open for lunch and dinner.

At least somebody’s stock is on the up.

La Mar Cebichería Peruana, Pier 1½, The Embarcadero, at Washington Street (415-397-8880 or lamarcebicheria.com).
