Go Etch

Your inner OptiMisty tells you to cut out the negatives and focus on the positives. But your nagging Debbie Downer isn’t convinced you have the chops.

Try a linocut printmaking class at Potrero Hill’s 3 Fish Studios, where students learn to create a traditional relief by carving away negative space (the stuff you don’t want to see) to preserve positive space (the stuff that’s fit to print).

Studio owner and artist Eric Rewitzer shows you how to transfer an image onto linoleum, etch it out, ink it up, and produce a print. The $50 fee covers all materials, head count is limited to eight per session, parking is abundant, music is a must, and tasty takeout spots are nearby for midpress picnicking — making the classes positively ideal for you and some friends.

Just don’t invite Negative Nancy.

3 Fish Studios, 2415 3rd Street, at 22nd Street, suite 243 (415-865-0420 or 3fishstudios.com). Next class is August 22, 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
