May Luk's I Dream of Mimi Tableware

Batty neighbors always make for good stories. (Like the agoraphobic lady whose parrot repeated all your dirty talk.)

But few of us have actually immortalized said nut jobs.

Except for Brooklyn-based ceramicist May Luk, who created a set of plates inspired by a downstairs neighbor. The I Dream of Mimi series pays homage to a cracked-out domestic goddess who vacuums in the nude and pours herself a stiff G&T every evening at 5 sharp.

Luk, a former illustrator, works with white stoneware and porcelain clay, then silk-screens or transfer-prints images for a dreamy effect. And though the pieces are decidedly feminine, they’re also durable and totally functional.
