Judging by appearances is tricky: Do it, and you’re superficial. Don’t, and you end up on another date with a dipshit in an Ed Hardy tee.
Regardless, you’ll know you’re in for something special when you spy Johnny Bueno’s compact new color studio just off Union Square.
Bueno and co-owner Brent Minnich worked with Anthony Laurino of The Good Hotel to make the space a sanctuary: Deco furniture, soothing neutral walls, and bold abstract art set the stage for tranquil treatments. Clients look out over the Bay and the ballpark from windows lined by a succulent garden and can even pick their own music.
And then there’s Bueno’s color expertise. The man trained with Aveda Academy London and Toni&Guy in France, and offers everything from super-shiny semipermanent glosses to Brazilian blowouts.
Sulfate and paraben-free Kevin Murphy products let Bueno advertise his principles.
Without the help of a sparkly faux tattoo.
