When a batter ends up on second, it’s a double.

When chef Traci Des Jardins opens a couple of casual restaurants at the ballpark, it’s a grand slam.

Taking the place of Des Jardins’s shuttered Acme Chophouse are Public House, a modern sports pub, and another outpost of her Ferry Building taqueria, Mijita, both open now.

Public House gets a leg up on the typical game-watching spot with exposed brick and a “keg wall” atop a beer bar with an impressive selection of 24 craft and cask drafts. An open kitchen dishes locally made sausages and dogs, spiced lamb sliders, and Pacific cod fish and chips.

Meanwhile, the brightly colored Mijita, decked out with a tiled tequila bar and Day of the Dead mural by local artist Jesse Wilson, serves faves from the original location (carnitas tacos), plus new “Not So Authentico” offerings like jalapeno poppers and nachos.

And you can buy a beer at Public House and take it into the ballpark (it’s cheaper) or get food from either spot to go — if you’re actually there to catch a game, that is.
