As much as you adore adobo from a cart or pie from a bike, sometimes you just want to sit.
Luckily, you can now savor tasty Venezuelan street food comfortably (and seated) at Pica Pica Maize Kitchen, opening in the Mission on Monday.
Caracas native Ardiana Lopez Vermut brings Pica Pica to the city from Napa’s Oxbow Market, serving cheesy, stuffed goodness like arepas (grilled white corn flour cakes) and cachapas (sweet corn pancakes), as well as the more familiar empanada. Mix and match with yucca fries, sweet plantains, soups, and salads.
A casual-but-chic interior has tangerine tiling, zebrawood veneer, and lots of light from corner windows. Plus, a spot on the elmwood benches is a welcome step up from a patch of sidewalk.
Pica Pica Maize Kitchen, 401 Valencia Street, at 15th Street (415-400-5453). The first 300 readers to register online at picapicakitchen.com with promo code DailyCandy will receive a voucher for a free arepa.
