What you’d find in the back of most video stores is too racy to print.
Unless it’s Four Star Video in Bernal Heights. Walking through the space takes you to a hidden gem: Succulence, a most enchanting little home and garden shop.
As the name suggests, there are plants in all shapes and sizes, which co-owner Frauke Swoboda uses to create square wreaths and vertical wall installations. The lush patio leads to a tiny converted barn, where you’ll find a small selection of gardening books, wooden cutting boards, mismatched vintage plates, and local art.
With a few jars of delicious, handmade preserves (grapefruit marmalade, lemon chutney) and canning workshops on the way, don’t expect this garden to stay secret for long.
Succulence, 402 Cortland Avenue, at Bennington Street (415-282-2212).
