Dance Your Way to Fitness and Flexibility

Dian Meechai's Flexy Go-Go Love Workouts

flexy go-go love dance and flexibility classes!

You fancy yourself a regular Julianne Hough, but in reality, you fall somewhere between Elaine Benes and Liz Lemon.

Shake it (and shape up) with abandon at the hilariously named Flexy Go-Go Love class, created and taught by dancer and contortionist Dian Meechai. (Fear not: She won’t ask you to wrap your limbs into a pretzel.)

The 90-minute workout starts with light stretching and body rolls, then moves on to dance steps that incorporate salsa, hip-hop, and jazz — sometimes dancers even freestyle down a “catwalk.” A session of conditioning at the end (back bends, leg kicks) strengthens and tones.

Meechai encourages students to be comfortable and confident (beginners are welcome) and plays an upbeat soundtrack, ranging from electronic to Michael Jackson. See? You really are dancing with the stars.

Mondays, 6:30-8 p.m., at Symbolic Dance Center, 672 South Van Ness Avenue, between 17th and 18th Streets (415-681-8140); Fridays, 5:30-7 p.m., at Vima Dance Studio, 560 3rd Street, between Bryant and Brannan Streets (415-977-0203 or vimadance.com). For more information, go to dianmeechai.com.
