Miette’s gorgeous confections are almost too pretty to eat. Almost.
Your baking experiments, on the other hand, could use a little cosmetic retouching. Learn from the masters, at one of Miette’s cookie decorating classes.
Just in time for the holidays, Jeff Gosche, the bakery’s cookie expert, leads a three-hour, hands-on course that teaches students to make and color the perfect royal icing, as well craft piping cones from parchment paper. Then comes the actual decorating, on the blank canvas of Miette’s own sugar cookies.
Serious artisans-in-training may also want to check the website for the next three-week intensive course, which includes cakes, cupcakes, and detail work like buttercream roses. Which, we don’t doubt, will taste as good as they look.
Available Saturday, 1-4 p.m., 85 Webster Street, at Jack London Square, Oakland (510-663-1300). Register online at miette.com, $65.
