Certain things are best left to the pros (trimming your bangs, anything involving your nether regions).
Maybe the most daunting meal of the year should be, too. Instead of slaving over Thanksgiving dinner, order a ready-to-assemble meal kit from Gitane restaurant’s three-star chef, Bridget Batson.
For $45 per person, you’ll get dishes (with instructions) that mom couldn’t make if she tried: roasted sugar pie pumpkins filled with Maine lobster and pumpkin bisque; quail stuffed with toasted baguette and sage; pureed sweet potatoes with butter, cream, and ginger; thinly shaved Brussels sprouts with sherry-brown sugar vinaigrette. Dessert goes beyond pie with pain de mie-and-pumpkin bread pudding.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit Project Open Hand, a nonprofit providing meal services to SF and Alameda residents with serious illnesses. Giving everyone something to be thankful for.
Pickup November 24, 3-10 p.m., at Gitane, 6 Claude Lane, between Sutter and Bush Streets (415-788-6686 or gitanerestaurant.com). Order November 4-22 online, by phone, in person, or e-mail (info@gitanerestaurant.com).
