Freaky transformations happen at nightfall. (See: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde; your co-workers after a few shots).
But there’s no need to fear Dcantr, which will morph SoMa’s daytime Stable Cafe space into a sit-down restaurant come dinner tonight.
Josh Skenes and Mark Bright of Saison (which will continue to serve elegant tasting menus in Stable Cafe’s back dining room and terrace) are going casual for this wine bar-slash-resto. You’ll find rustic American fare from a wood oven and hearth (Monterey spot prawns, pimenton de la vera, Meyer lemon; fried sand dabs, ember-roasted Orion fennel, wild fennel citronette; Soul Food Farm poussin, roast chicken vinaigrette, lemon thyme).
The daily-changing wine program (ten glasses a night) will hone in on lesser-known microregions around the globe. As for the surroundings, expect minimal changes to the Stable’s simple wooden tables — just fresh flowers and tableware.
No need to freak out.
Dcantr, 2128 Folsom Street, at 17th Street (415-828-7990).
