For chef Dominique Crenn, it’s also love: Her new restaurant, Atelier Crenn, opening Friday in Cow Hollow, is a highly personal tribute to her late father, an artist.
Showcasing several of her father’s works, the restaurant has an earthy but clean palette (teak tables, custom evergreen chairs, fig trees, glass orb lighting). There’s also a poem dedicated to him on the back of each menu.
Crenn herself creates art on the plate, taking most of her ingredients from Gouge Eye Farm. Two tasting menus reveal the influence of her Brittany upbringing: seafaring dishes like abalone with onion dashi, slow-cooked egg with chanterelles, tender lamb neck with yogurt and sorrel. Indulge further with the killer cheese cart — it’s a real masterpiece.
Atelier Crenn, 3127 Fillmore Street, between Greenwich and Filbert Streets (415-440-0460 or ateliercrenn.com).
