You haven’t been near a county fair since the time you dropped major cash on Skee-Ball and threw up on the Gravitron.
Get over your hangups at Straw, a new carnival-themed restaurant in Hayes Valley, opening today.
Outfitted with an authentic Tilt-a-Whirl booth, black and white Coney Island pics, and vintage carnival signs, the restaurant aims to give you a thrill: Throughout dinner, play games like Guess the Amount of Your Check to win a free meal or stuffed animal.
Sandos like the Bearded Lady (pulled pork, blackberry coulis, chipotle barbecue sauce) and Ring Master (a burger on a Krispy Kreme donut) as well as monthly changing entrees join street food-inspired starters like Parmesan-cayenne corn fritters.
Also available: vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free menus — and a cotton candy machine spinning clouds of orange blossom sweetness. Give it a whirl.
Straw, 203 Octavia Street, at Page Street (415-431-3663 or strawsf.com).
