Thorny Subject
Jonathan Fong’s Rosebud Ice Cubes

You’ve been called prickly once or twice.
But such accusations can be turned to your advantage with a little creativity. And there’s no better way to shed your thorns than with rose ice cubes, a nifty DIY project courtesy of interior design genius Jonathan Fong.
Here’s what you’ll need:
12 spray roses (you know, the mini ones)
12 twist ties
2 wooden skewers
1 ice cube tray
tape (you know, the sticky kind)
Instructions:
1. Cut the spray roses, leaving about two inches of stem. Use a twist tie to attach each stem to the wooden skewers.
2. Place the roses, now attached to the skewers, upside down in the individual compartments of the ice tray.
3. Tape down the skewers at the ends of the ice tray so that when you add water, nothing floats up.
4. Add water and freeze overnight.
5. Remove the tape, snap off the frozen stems along with the skewers and twist ties. Pop the ice cubes out of the tray.
6. Put the cubes in an ice bucket to cool wine or champagne at your next party. (Don’t put them in your drinks because many flowers are sprayed with nasty pesticides.)
Your image looks rosier already.
