Bite Me

Dragonfly Cakes Petits Fours

dragonfly!

You always say you’ll have just one bite.

Right. One bite of cake? Good luck. One bite of cupcake? Ha ha. Self-control? Not your forte.

Which brings us to the best small treat of all: Dragonfly Cakes’ petits fours. For the past year and a half, the Sausalito-based wholesale bakery has been creating 7,000 handmade petits fours per week and selling them to specialty food distributors.

And the confections are finally available to the public. Order by phone and schedule a pickup, or do it online.

Flavors include chocolate, vanilla-orange, hazelnut, raspberry, apricot, and lemon. The one-and-a-half-by-one-inch morsels consist of three layers of cake, three layers of buttercream, a layer of jam, and a layer of marzipan, all coated in chocolate — white or dark. (Pretty impressive for one morsel.)

Got a special occasion? A birthday, wedding, shower, or holiday? You can get the little cakes customized (think monograms, flowers, hearts).

Consider that the icing on the cake.

Dragonfly Cakes, 200 Gate Five Road, at Coloma Street, suite 107, Sausalito (415-332-6812). By appointment only. To order online, go to dragonflycakes.com.
