Latin word roots: “Holly” and “bear.”
Origin: While home on vacation, CCA senior textiles major Holly Samuelsen brought her childhood beading kit out of hibernation.
Distinguishing marks: Inspired by ethnic and folk art, intricately beaded earrings recall arts and crafts, Pocahontas, and campfires. Birds (peacock, quetzal, phoenix) feature prominently.
Relationship with humans: Gets along with tasteful bohippians and those who dig fine handiwork.
General distribution: Mostly custom-made. Depending on its complexity, a piece can take up to twenty hours, but Samuelsen prefers creating something special and personal for each customer.
Status: Accessories of a truly evolved nature.
