Local Kitchen & Wine Merchant Opens

local flavor!

Dear Gabby,

Is there a BLD spot where I can plug in my laptop by day and sip wine by night? Not into hotel restos or depressing corner cafes.
— Starving in SoMa

Dear Starving,

First, get yourself a cracker. Then head to Local Kitchen & Wine Merchant. The sleek one-stop eatery from chef Ola Fendert (Oola) and wunderkind sommelier Mark Bright opens Wednesday.

Starting with dinner service, the wood-burning oven will turn out five or six daily pizzas, whole-roasted fish, and homey rotisserie chicken. Choose from 40 wines by the glass from far-off lands like India and Japan with hardly a domestic beer in sight.

Breakfast will start in January. Get caffeine, nosh on pastries, or order all-American breakfast standards while perusing magazines and papers. Free wireless, to boot.

Lunch, brunch, a wine shop, and “room service” (their fancy name for delivery) are also in the works.

Bon appetit,
Gabby
