Word Up
Jumpstart’s SF Early Literacy Initiative

When you’re two feet high, the thought of kindergarten is too scary for words.
Literally — 35 percent of American kindergartners start school without the skills to succeed.
Get going on your resolutions by mentoring with Jumpstart, an organization that pairs at-risk preschoolers with adult volunteers.
You can also join their SF Early Literacy Initiative by reading to tykes at the Bayview Public Library while parents enroll them in kindergarten. Or teach families how to incorporate learning into home life during an eight-week workshop.
In February, you can help moppets perform at Winter Wonders Storybook Productions, a recital where they show off their progress.
Of course, donations are always welcome.
Spread the word.
