Piece of Cake

Red Cake Gallery

have your cake!

In the art world, being the little guy isn’t easy. Still. That’s no excuse for Napoleonic complexes.

Matter of fact, you can be downright convivial and still conquer the odds. So proves Red Cake, a new online gallery and art shop whose motto is “small, friendly art at small, friendly prices.”

Owners and artists Sherry Koyama and Julia Petho are rebelling (nicely) against the establishment by showing works that are too small — or too unusual — for commercial venues.

Browse four categories (collectible, hangable, readable, wearable) for pieces like Brenna Burns’s baby buck ink drawings, Richard Barlow’s Book of Knots, and pistol-packing silver necklaces by Anomaly jeweler Karen Yost. Outré creations like Kirk Stoller’s intestinally suggestive sculpture are best viewed in person.

Look out for live events where you can meet artists and preview work not yet available on the site. They happen every three months; the next one happens February 23.

Vive la revolution.
