Serial Cultura Spring ’08 Collection

Just because you can slap a digital picture on anything doesn’t mean you should. Only Mom could love a belt buckle with your face on it. (Because she’s too nice to tell you the truth.)
But Serial Cultura designer Jennifer Jennings runs circles around Kodak Gallery, turning original snapshots of everyday urban objects into arresting prints. She also screens, prints, dyes, and cuts every top and dress by hand in her Oakland studio.
Her debut collection combines bold colors, striking patterns, and simple-but-smart constructions — an eye-catching twist on warm-weather basics. For example, a chain link print morphs into either a black-and-white darted box top or an angled red-and-black shift dress. (So nifty!)
No matter how you wear them, you’ll have a look that’s worth at least 1,000 words.
Available at MAC, 387 Grove Street, between Gough and Franklin Streets (415-863-3011). To see styles, go to serialcultura.com.
