Sally may sell seashells by the seashore, but Taylor Shellfish Farms sells seafood right up on yonder Hill.
Staffed by members of the fifth-generation family farm, the new Melrose Market location is the fishmonger’s first in Seattle. Begin your hands-on oyster picking at the bubblers (meant to keep selections fresh); choose from Virginica, Totten Inlet, Kumamoto, Shigoku, and Olympia varieties.
Seasonal pickings include Qualicum scallops, Manila clams, and Mediterranean mussels in addition to Dungeness crab, spot prawns, and Maine lobster. Also at the ready: all the oyster-shucking knives, gloves, and advice you could want.
Take your underwater treasures to go or plant yourself at one of several small tables for a cup of chowder and some heroes on the half shell.
Sally can suck it.
