Malachy the Pekingese may have been top dog at this year’s Westminster competition, but we’ve found a new breed of champion.
Introducing The Dog Show, the Echo Park vintage boutique that throws a bone to snazzy dressers with ensembles that look like M.I.A. collided with a Midwestern flea market while wielding a can of fuchsia spray paint.
Owners Anna Dewey Greer and Christine Stormberg (childhood pals and Omaha transplants) cull funky finds (acid-washed denim, gem-studded sweatshirts, nubby sweaters) from Nebraska secondhand stores to accompany their eponymous collection, which includes spandex leggings, shredded tees, and The Doggy Bag (a stretched velvet onesie).
We give the Pepto-accented decor (plastic Toys “R” Us cash register, glitter-encrusted unicorn head) two paws up. And the wall of acrylic hair (adorned with barrettes and scrunchies that are for sale) makes us howl with delight.
The Dog Show, 1930 Echo Park Avenue, between Avalon and Ewing Streets, Echo Park (323-522-3526 or thedogshowusa.com).
