What: Word nerds gather for readings, author signings, workshops, panel discussions, and more.
Why: The Wine and Words event pairs local authors with sips and bites at three locales (Parkplace Books, Milagro Cantina, The Grape Choice).
When: Sat. & Sun., 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Wine and Words, Sat., 7-9 p.m.
Where: Peter Kirk Park, 202 Third St., Kirkland.

Elaia Spa

What: A kids-are-back-to-school promo delivers an appletini alongside the express Oxygen Blast Facial for just $35.
Why: No kids required.
When: Mon.-Fri., noon-4 p.m.

Fringe Fest

What: The eclectic arts festival returns after a nearly decade-long absence.
Why: Twenty-one artists chosen through a lottery system promises a diverse lineup. We are most excited about local groups Irrational Robot Bureau and Serendip Modern Dance Company.

Rachel Roy

What: The celebrated designer launches her sizzling new shoe collection at Nordstrom and donates 10 percent of proceeds to Pacific Northwest Ballet’s Backstage Pass program.
Why: She’ll sign your sole. Spend $250 and get a limited-edition RR tee.
When: Tonight, 6-8 p.m.
